Kyoto old street Gion and Higashiyama

The Higashiyama District along the river in the east side is one of the city’s best preserved historic district. It is a great place to experience traditional old Kyoto, especially between Kiyomizudera and Yasaka Shrine, where the narrow lanes, wooden buildings and traditional merchant shops invoke a feeling of the old capital city. Amazing place to not miss in Japan and in Kyoto.

One of the best places in Kyoto, but also in Japan. It is extremely pleasant to walk in this place. The streets are created ideally for pedestrians. One can also do the majority of this place by walking. Between the typical streets, the shops, the temples, the parks, and the hills in the background, it is an ideal place for magnificent views and beautiful photos. It is possible to have a view of Kyoto. The place is often crowded, so it is not uncommon to have trouble getting around the traditional streets in the middle of the afternoon.

This district is not just a neighborhood, it’s a part of town that represents the whole history of japan, and that’s why it’s a must. In my opinion, Kyoto is the historical city not to be missed. This city can give a general overview of the whole of Japanese culture. It allows you to discover a traditional Japan with all its advantages and beautiful places.

The streets in Higashiyama are lined by small shops, cafes and restaurants which have been catering to tourists and pilgrims for centuries. These businesses retain their traditional design, although many have been renovated through the years, and they continue to serve customers today, with a lot of traditionnal product from Japan. Definitely a good place where we can stay for a complete day an even more. Easily accessible by walk from Kiyomizu Gojo Station or Gion Shijo Station along the Keihan Line with just 10 mminutes walking. Also accessible from Kyoto station with around 20 minutes walking.
